Peregrine Networks Receives a License from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to provide WiMAX Wireless Services Nationwide

ManchesterNH– June, 2008 – Peregrine Networks, a leading high-speed fixed wireless provider in Manchester, NH announced today that they received a license from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to provide WiMAX wireless services nationwide in the newly released 3.65 GHz band (3650-3700 MHz). Peregrine Networks currently offers business class Internet & data communications services to businesses in the greater Manchester, Nashua and Concord areas.

Peregrine Networks, which offers bandwidths between 1 mbps and 100 mbps, expects to be delivering WiMAX sometime in 2009. The company’s FCC license will give Peregrine Networks the ability to provide high-bandwidth services over a quasi-licensed frequency.

WiMAX technology stands for ‘wide interoperability for microwave access’. This technology allows wireless data to travel over long distances from point to point links to full mobile cellular type access.  It is based on the IEEE 802.16 standard, which is also called Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX). The WiMax Forum, which was formed in June 2001 to promote conformance and interoperability of the standard, created the name “WiMAX”. The forum describes WiMAX as “a standards-based technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL.”

“As a leading wireless Internet provider, Peregrine Networks will be able to broaden our service offerings and our customers will reap the benefits of utilizing WiMAX technology,” said Bret Clark, CTO of Peregrine Networks. “Our application was approved and we are looking forward to deploying WiMAX technology in our coverage area.” Peregrine Networks also provides a complete line of e-commerce solutions including Internet access, web hosting, outsourced wireless networking services and colocation.

With the FCC license in its portfolio, Peregrine Networks is now in a position to offer its multipoint, multi-megabit services to customers in near-line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight situations, due to the lower frequencies used by 3.65GHz WiMAX deployments. This ability is a clear differentiator between Peregrine Networks and most of the area’s smaller wireless providers, that don’t have the capability to offer WiMAX due to its cost and complexity.
